Solutions for Addressing Concrete Defects and Durability Problems on Building Facades with Exposed Slab Edges
Many concrete buildings have exposed structural slab edges on the building facade. Concrete construction defects and durability problems at the exposed slab edges can lead to unsightly conditions, concrete distress, falling debris hazards and potential structural issues. The presentation will discuss the common defects that may occur on exposed slab edges, and will present repair techniques and coating systems to address these defects and reduce the likelihood of future hazards and durability problems.
Our speaker will be:
Jeffrey S. West, PhD, PE, FACI
Jeff West is an Associate Principal in the Austin office of Wiss, Janney, Elstner Associates, Inc., with more than 20 years of experience in structural engineering and materials research and consulting. His primary areas of expertise include the evaluation and rehabilitation of existing structures, structural testing, post-tensioned structures and concrete materials. Prior to joining WJE, Dr. West was a professor of civil engineering at the University of Waterloo (Canada) for 15 years.
Dr. West is a fellow of the American Concrete Institute and a member of several ACI committees including ACI 562, the concrete repair code.
